From Runways to Retailers.

The New York collections that walked down the runways this past fashion week has been screaming lady-like, polished and sophisticated trends. Designers from Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, Donna Karan to Marc Jacobs have taken us back to Hollywood Glamour. These looks are not only beautiful on the runway....but they are actually wearable. How amazing is that? As a merchandising major, I quickly realized the importance of this note towards retailers everywhere. Fashion directors, VPs, and managing directors of major retailers such as Saks, Nordstrom, Bloomies, Bergdorf's, Macy's, and Neiman Marcus (to name a few) are greatly benefitting from this particular trend to be in style this fall. These wearable pieces are much easier to sell to a trend knowledgeable consumer.

And what exactly are these wearable trends? Outerwear includes parkas, capes, peacoats, anoraks, and puffers. Blouses tuxedo-style, global-inspired prints, chunky knits paired with feminine skirts and dresses, fur and shearling, longer lengths in pencil skirts, fine tailoring, wide-leg pants, and surprisingly pops of bright colors such as cranberries, magentas, and pink. I am definitely looking forward to seeing these looks in store for fall.
