It’s been a busy couple of weeks here at HOUGHTON headquarters! Fashion week has ended, and the debut of the new collection could not have been better. I have known designer, Katharine Polk for the past two years. Her styling work always had an edge- a unique spin on something that would just be ordinary. And that’s exactly the concept she brought while designing Houghton. A beautiful, feminine collection…yet somehow it isn’t typical. The line is filled with a white/cream/blush color palette, with long gowns, asymmetrical hems, tailored tuxedos, and stunning separates. Houghton fills a gap in the marketplace; looks can be worn for bridal, red carpet, or everyday. It’s a collection for the smart, strong and chic woman. Inspirations were drawn from fashion icons Katharine Hepburn, Patti Smith, and Bianca Jagger.
Personally, I thought it was amazing seeing the birth of the collection from a sketch, to selecting fabrics and embellishments, to shooting the look book, to castings and fittings, to a sunny presentation/show held on February 9, 2012 at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
L’Oreal Professional created romantic curls for the show, while The Original Beauty Blender team finished the look with stunning make up. The accessories for Houghton added a nice touch to the overall collection. Katharine created hats for the line with designer, Patrick Kavanaugh, and designed with jewelry line, Sequin. Here are some of my favorite shots from the show.
