SS13: Inspirations / NYFW

The SS13 Shows this past Fashion Week has really captured much inspiration. Looking at the pieces down the runway, I realized how each designer incorporated their influences into each collection. It's beautiful and personal that way. Here are some collections I found to be really striking.

THEYSKEN'S THEORY

Inspiration: The Deep Sea

Every season, I'm drawn to Olivier Theysken's pieces and the effortless, tailored quality. It's dark beauty, with some lighter colors thrown into the mix. Altogether deep blues, grays, and blacks capture its essence.

REED KRAKOFF

Inspiration: "Cool Femininity"

Most of us are used to seeing the minimalism of Reed Krakoff's designs, and here we have it. Minimalism, but taken to the next level. This season, Krakoff incorporated sportswear and lingerie into a beautiful collection of impeccable tailored separates, all of which were in the neutral color palette, finishing with a few pops of red.

ANNA SUI

Inspiration: London/New York

When I arrived at Lincoln Center to watch Anna Sui's show, I expected the extreme- and that's exactly what the show brought. An extreme world of fantasy. Blue, pink, and purple hair! Crazy head pieces and sunglasses completed the looks of youthful lace dresses, brocade jumpsuits, little biker studded jackets, and ditzy floral prints all around. There's no such thing as playing it safe here.

JASON WU

Inspiration: Newton Restrospective at the Grand Palais in Patis

Now this is a collection I really fell in love with. It was so unexpected, Jason Wu surprised the crowd with something more provocative. With leather, lace, and sheer chiffons, it was overall breathtaking.

New Necessity: NEST Fragrances

Yesterday I came home to the best surprise, NEST products on my desk. And where did they come from? My best friend, who happens to be my roommate works for the home fragrance company at Bergdorf Goodman. Yesterday, NEST held an event that launched their new fine fragrance. I couldn't get enough of my Moss & Mint Body Wash and Orange Blossom Bar Soap. The scents are immaculate...fresh, clean, and perfect for everyday use.

NEST fragrances launched in 2008, carrying a luxurious collection of scented candles and fragrances. Try for yourself, you'll be glad you did- products are sold at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and fine specialty stores around the world.

Houghton SS'13 Collection.

The adventure of creating an entire collection is pretty remarkable. I've been working at Houghton since the beginning the brand, and seen the growth and success it's been achieving. The sophomore collection consisted of beautiful pieces constructed in New York, embroidered in the UK and beaded in India. This season color was added, (even the logo, notice the neon pink?) but Houghton stayed true to its aesthetic - that tomboy in a dress feel, effortless and cool. The rompers as well as three piece suits tied it all together with feminine long gowns and shorter cocktail dresses. The mix of chantilly laces, painted laces, custom prints, and intricate beading made the collection all the more compelling. I was blown away yesterday, the collection looked amazing against the outside view from The Standard. Designer Katharine Polk worked with Sequin to create stunning jewelry pieces for the collection. The show was sponsored by Milk MADE, hair by L'Oreal Professional, Make up by MAC, and shoes by Michael Antonio.
