Skirting Around

If she can wear the pants, why can't he wear the skirt? Last night, the 12.12.12 concert was held in Madison Square Garden in NYC to raise funds for the damages of Hurricane Sandy. Kanye West performed sporting a Givenchy leather skirt designed by Riccardo Tisci, over what seems to be leather pants, with a hoodie - sleeves scrunched and all. So why so much controversy? Rumors of the skirt being stolen from girlfriend, Kim Kardashian's closet flowed through the newsfeeds. It's not the first time we've seen a man in a skirt, take a look at previous menswear collections from Fashion Week and Marc Jacob's own collection of kilts. Leather is a major Pre-Fall trend this season. Maybe the skirt was a practical outfit for all the dancing twists, turns, and kicks on stage?

How to Look Good in an Ugly Holiday Sweater

It's that time of year again. And your invites to extravagant cocktail parties has somehow included a new attire; an ugly holiday sweater. Before you hit panic mode, this might actually be fun. Dig into your grandma's vintage collection or hit the thrift store with joy for endless mohair finds.

Turn ugly to something beautiful. Here are 3 Ways to Look Good in An Ugly Holiday Sweater.

1. ADD JEWELS!
Depending on the pattern of the sweater, you can have some fun with jewelry here. For a busy sweater, (moose, fair isle, and snowflakes, anyone?) add statement earrings that are a solid color or a solid large cuff. You don't want to overdo it with prints.

For a striped or polka dotted sweater, try a long bold necklace. The one shown below from DANNIJO looks like christmas lights! It's a party, so there's a gem of an excuse to go crazy without being overwhelming. Try a festive piece to complete the look. A great match to the printed sweater are black skinny jeans and booties.

Cuff Mulberry
Jeans J Brand
Polka Dot Sweater J.Crew
Necklace DANNIJO
Booties Balenciaga

2. CINCH THE WAIST
Feel like you're drowning in a bubble of oversized yarns? Wear a longer length sweater as a dress, and flatter your figure by adding a belt at the waist. Throw on some black tights and over-the-knee boots to add some youth to the old piece.

Over-the-Knee Boots Stuart Weitzman

3. CHOP IT!
If your a DIY kind of girl, here's your next project. Get back into the 90's feel and go retro. A cropped sweater is definitely not something your grandma would wear. Lay the sweater flat on the floor and cut it straight, a little longer than half of the original waist length. Match it with a long maxi and platforms to balance out proportion!

'Cat' Comeback on Broadway: Scarlett Johansson's New Role

The cat may be on a hot tin roof, but Scarlett Johansson is in no hurry to get away. December 18th marks the first preview of Broadway play revival, “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” by American writer, Tennessee Williams. Yes, it is the same title that won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1955. The opening date starts early next year on January 17th running to March 30th at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City. Whether you are a front row religious play-watching regular or occasionally enjoy a play here and there, “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” is a can’t miss of the season. With several remakes as plays and films in the past, news debuted about the upcoming show’s cast released back in September. Johansson will take on the lead role of the beautiful and gutsy Maggie "the Cat”, married in a dysfunctional relationship with husband Brick, played by Benjamin Walker. The 28-year old bombshell celebrated her birthday just two weeks ago, while everyone had Thanksgiving in mind. This will be her first Broadway comeback since “A View From the Bridge” two years ago, a prize winning performance with Tony award to match. Previous actresses who charmed the role of Maggie “the Cat” in the first play and film, respectively, were Barbara Bel Geddes and Elizabeth Taylor.

The plot allows no time for a catnap as thrill, heartbreak, and drama will leave your whiskers twisted. The story unfolds with a wealthy southern family, and male head Big Daddy Pollitt, played by Ciaran Hinds. As he celebrates his 65th birthday, conflicts stir upon his cancer diagnosis and the decision whether to pass down his Mississippi plantation to one of his sons. Issues within the family inheritance and tensions between lonely and seducing, Maggie and alcohol addict, Brick arise. Scenes are expected to be hot and heavy. The classic story’s revival will be revamped with direction under lead producer, Stuart Thompson and director choreographer, Rob Ashford. Makes me think - what will Maggie wear? The mix of her sophisticated yet feisty personality calls for...leather and lace? Studs and florals? Guess the mystery leave us staying tuned for more.
