Great-er Than Costume Jewelry
The literary classic American novel The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, in which I read in high school brought about much hype when it was announced as a movie in the making. Growing up in Long Island, aka. "the West Egg" in Gatsby words, I found the story to be a compelling read. The constant love affairs made incredible cliff hangers, it was hard to put the book down. The plot was based upon the era of the 20's - 1922 to be exact. During this roaring time period, I only imagined what their wardrobe composed of - and Gatsby's closet! Director Baz Luhrmann's wife, Catherine Martin, who has been his creative partner for a while now, took on the role as the movie's costume designer. So what does she have in store for dressing the characters of the Jazz Age? One thing's for sure, the stars will really shine on the big screen with jewels made in collaboration with Tiffany & Co, creating pieces such as a collection of platinum-set diamonds and pearls. It was a natural move, as the iconic American brand fits perfectly with the theme of the story; classic and beautiful. Much better than ordinary costume jewelry? I think so. The Great Gatsby will be released in 3D and in theatres on May 10th this year.
